Military Appreciation by guardian-of-moon Military Appreciation by guardian-of-moon
09-08-05 Edit: 9-11 is come'n up. I was figure'n it was beause of 9-11 that our soldiers were sent over there... forget the fucked up reasons our president used back then, but it still feels like the two are linked. I know I won't have anything new up in time for 9-11, but knowing someone who died in the Pentagon makes me feel I should show some sort of support and let others know *I* didn't forget...

----------

I wear a metal, yellow ribbon pin on my work vest. It's in memory and honor of those who fought/are fighting in the middle east, not just for their freedom, but for ours, too. It disgusts me when customers ask me what the yellow ribbon means, but I'm happy to explain and spread the word.

is a soldier over in Iraq. I pray everyday for him ^_^ as do many other pray for him and the rest of the soliders.

I made the rose red for two reason. 1) Because it's the color of blood, so the rose is for the soliders who lost their life (or close to it) from the war. 2) Red roses stand for love, and I'm sure every solider over there has a least one person who loves and misses them.

serves in Hawaii, so this pic is dedicated to him, too ;)

God Bless All who serve in our country's defenses.

heh, no problem. I'm a navy brat via mom, dad, and step-mom so I have lots of pride in my government's military.... it's the government I despise ;)

I wish your brother to come home safe. I was lucky my parents only had to deal with the Gulf War, yet they were cryptologists -- people who do the secret codes and decode new information. They weren't on the front lines.

I understand. I wish the best for your father over there. I have a HS friend over there, right now. And someone I graduated with is going this October and another was shot there. Thankfully he survived and came home okay. When does your father come back?

Oy.... ^^; Well a Yellow ribbon means you support the US troops in the Iraq War. It also means you're waiting for the troops' return home, safe and alive.

...I'm the devils advocate, I suppose. But we aren't fighting for freedom, we're fighting for oil. I support our soldies, but by that I mean I want them home where they belong.

And why does it 'disgust' you for someone to ask what it means? I never knew a yellow ribbon had anything to do with that. In fact, what I knew the yellow ribbon as was a sign for fighting AIDS.

I completely agree that it is possible to not agree with the reasons our folks are overseas, yet appreciate that they are there to do this for us.

I am disturbed by news sources who claim Bu$h is ahead in the polls.... I want to know who they're asking, when all the folks I know hate the man. While I don't doubt he's doing the best he can, he is nonetheless giving the US a bad image. It's time for someone new, you know?

BRING HOME OUR GUYS AND GALS! 'Nuff said.

Yellow ribbon has a few different meanings. During war time it means you support the troops and you want them to return home, alive and well. Yellow ribbon also means, outside of war, that you are against suicide.

I do want them home...if there was a cause I believed in over there, I'd be more enthusiastic, but right now I just wish Bush would stop killing our people. They join our army and love our country, and he kills them...><

FYI, DeDe...Marines REALLY don't like being called soldiers. The Air Force has Airmen, the Navy has Sailors, the Army has thier solders, but the Marines are Marines. (Yes, I know we have an ego problem...but most of us are proud of it!)

>.< But my parents were both in the Navy and they weren't "sailors" They were cryptologist (if I spelled that right X_x), they stayed on the land... I dunno what general term to call all those in the military.

:shakefist: You're just try'n to make me very confused -_-; Which isn't very hard to do ^^;

Cryptologic Technicians...my uncle was the same thing. Do you know, were either of them stationed in Hawaii in the late 80s/early 90's, or in Saudi during Gulf I?

no...the only reason i ask, is that my uncle was in Ryiadh(sp?) during the gulf. He was a crypto guy when he was enlisted, then became a Warrant Officer. He was in charge of one of the courier detachments over there. There's a possibility that your dad worked for/with him. Ask him if he knows a Chief Warrant Officer DeWeerd. It's worth a shot.

Nope... my dad says he doesn't know any DeWeerd, but he also said it was a long time ago. My dad retired 1995 as a navy chief, is your uncle still in the service or did he retire?
